House of detention

What does it feel like to be imprisoned? No contact with the outside world? To find out, I had myself incarcerated in the two prisons in Amsterdam, one on the Kleine Gartmanplantsoen and the other in the Havenstraat.
The most oppressive aspect was that my time was not my own. There was a rigorous timetable: get up, shower, work, eat, exercise … everything was determined and regulated.
